Quality child care that is accessible to children across socioeconomic backgrounds is a social determinant of health, and is shown to reduce poverty and social inequality, reduce substance use and mental illness and lower child mortality.
Childcare
We also know that a lack of access to affordable, accessible, inclusive, high-quality not-for-profit child care makes life harder for working families and disproportionately impacts Black and Indigenous people, Immigrants, Refugees, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. In order to increase access to affordable, quality childcare.
I am committed to:
- Collaborating with national childcare advocates and communities of caregivers who have organized to demand investment in affordable, accessible, inclusive, high-quality not-for-profit child care to ensure these investments are realized.
- Implementing accountability mechanisms to ensure consistency in the delivery of high-quality non-profit care.
- Ensure that provincial and territorial governments match federal spending.
