I believe that we can win

Tomorrow is election day.

Ottawa Centre is a progressive riding, and many of you have already voted.

You’ve been justifiably worried about the prospects of a Poilievre government. You’ve been determined to keep Poilievre out of the Prime Minister’s chair.

And there is good news: it’s safe to vote NDP in Ottawa Centre. Progressives here can vote for the local MP you want, and still stop the Conservatives.

Mark Carney’s Liberals are poised to form a majority government — the CBC’s Poll Tracker notes a 69% likelihood of this happening.

Meanwhile, Poilievre is at risk of losing his own seat. I’m not worried about him.

I’m worried about losing the federal NDP as voters flock to Mark Carney. That could turn Canada into a two-party system, and we’ve seen how that works in the USA.

Still, some insist that electing a government MP in Ottawa Centre helps. They think that’s how our needs will be met.

Let’s think about that for a minute. Ottawa Centre has had a government MP for nine years. Have things improved?

Is our homelessness and addictions crisis better? Is our transit system better?

No.

Can folks find a family doctor? Are cuts to the federal public service being stopped?

No.

Are we making progress on reconciliation goals? Do we have a serious climate plan?

No.

So let’s vote for the change we deserve. It’s time to demand more from politics

We can elect an MP that stands up for our community, makes Parliament stronger, and carries an inspiring vision for the NDP and our country.

Your local NDP campaign team has been working hard. We’ve shocked the pundits and chattering classes before. I believe that we can win.

So vote NDP! And let’s get to work on building a much better Canada. 🍁

My very best,

Joel
