Ontario's Auditor General must investigate the LRT
On Sept. 19, a Confederation Line train on Ottawa's LRT derailed, damaging both the car and track, leaving tens of thousands of residents without access to the LRT and adding hours to their commutes.
This derailment is only the latest in a string of failures for this LRT system, from door and brake problems, to trains having trouble functioning in winter.
The Ford government and the Liberals before them pushed a public-private partnership (P3) model to construct Ottawa’s LRT that is failing the people of Ottawa. We need the Auditor General of Ontario to investigate this provincially-funded project to provide answers, because the 30-year private maintenance contract with Rideau Transit Group is shrouded in secrecy.
