Panel Discussion
7 PM - 10 PM

Saint Paul University, Amphitheater (223 Main St.)

Join us for a panel discussion on what effective community organizing means and how we do it. There are many ways to organize, from on the ground door-knocking, to petitioning, hosting rallies and protests, engaging your friends and neighbors, and so much more. We want to bring all the different and successful methods of community organizing that has been happening in our city together to hear from them what building a movement looks like.

Learn from each of these incredible organizers as they share tips and tricks to their success.

BIG Organizing

A method of organizing that we used during the election campaign was BIG Organizing, a tool to engage volunteers and participants into taking organizing into their own hands and give everyone ownership of the movement you're building. Following our panel discussion, we will have a quick training of one of the methods of BIG Organizing, a "barnstorm".

Saturday, April 27th

Canvass Training
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

Saint Paul University, The Atelier (Entrance at 95 Clegg St.)

There are many ways to organize, but the one thing we all need to master as organizers is face-to-face connections with people, having conversations about the issues that matter to us. We will be hosting several door-to-door canvasses on different topics to get everyone engaged on the issues that matter to our community. The training will give you a chance to learn about the issue and how to speak to residents about it before you go canvassing. If you've never done canvassing before, this is the place to start!

Canvasses
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Various Locations

Canvass teams led by skilled organizers will hit the doors to talk to people about the issues that matter to them!

Info Fair
10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Saint Paul University, The Atelier (Entrance at 95 Clegg St.)

Now that everyone will be trained up on how to organize, we want to direct you to great local organizations who could use your skills! We will have local organizations and community groups set up with information on what they do, and you can go around and participate in organizing and capacity building discussions with them.

This is not a regular info fair, we will give everyone time to have mini organizing meetings in the space, so you can have discussions on how to organize on the spot!

If you are an organization or community group in need of some passionate organizers, email us at jharden-co@ndp.on.ca to participate in the fair.

Space Notes:

  • The Amphitheater space for the Friday event is a theater style room with steps going down towards the stage. The room is well lit and we will have mics for the participants.
  • The workshop space we will be using on Saturday and Sunday is a large room with desks and chairs, a kitchen and single stall, gender-neutral bathrooms. There is a kitchen with a large fridge, if you would like to bring your own food or snacks to store during the day. The lighting in that room is slightly dim.
